Originally written by Achyut Krishna Kharel and composed by the legendary classical maestro Phatteman Rajbhandari, the song holds a deeply unique place in Nepal's musical history. Though Phatteman regularly performed the song at live cultural events, he famously passed away without ever officially recording it in a commercial studio. The composition was preserved for over a decade by his student, Yuskey KC, who eventually brought the song into the mainstream digital era with his band, Stairs of Cirith. Released as a reharmonized alternative-indie single on April 30, 2024, their acoustic-led Yomari Sessions performance gracefully blends traditional tabla structures with modern ambient guitar arrangements, generating millions of views and a widespread cultural resurgence.
Lyrically, the song translates to "Rosy Lips" (with "Raktim" meaning deep crimson or blood-red) and stands as a poetic celebration of natural, unblemished beauty and innocent romance. The narration centers on a lover admiring their partner, gently singing that because their lips are naturally red and their eyes are naturally dark, they have absolutely no need for makeup or cosmetics ("lali nalae hunchha... gajal nalae hunchha").
