Kataav (also known as Kataav-The Escarpment) is an emerging Nepali melodic rock and experimental band formed in 2015 in Chitwan, Nepal. The group has steadily built a dedicated following within the independent Nepali music scene by blending heavily structured guitar riffs with deeply reflective, emotionally resonant lyrics. The core four-piece lineup consists of Pravin Lopchan on vocals and guitar, Spandan Jackson on guitar, Basan Gurung on bass, and Rakesh Gurung on drums, frequently collaborating with studio musicians like flutist Meelan Gajahmair to enrich their atmospheric sound.
The band's discography is defined by atmospheric, mood-driven tracks that capture themes of loss, longing, and human resilience. They broke into broader recognition with their 2021 debut single, "Tukreko Sapana Jhai," and have since followed up with evocative releases such as "Yaad Haru" and the highly anticipated "Maya K Ho." Known for their captivating live festival performances, Kataav has also expanded their presence by partnering with the local clothing brand Kamero Nepal for official merchandise, solidifying their footprint as a rising force in modern Nepali rock.
