Ankit Tiwari is a highly accomplished Indian playback singer, music director, and composer known for his emotionally raw, high-pitched romantic rock ballads and haunting melodies. Born on March 6, 1986, in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, he grew up in a family with deep-rooted musical connections, where his parents operated a local religious music troupe. After undergoing formal training in classical vocals, piano, and Western singing, Ankit moved to Mumbai in 2007 to work on television jingles and background scores. He skyrocketed to overnight nationwide fame in 2013 with his breakout composition and performance of the tragic anthem "Sunn Raha Hai" from the musical blockbuster Aashiqui 2. He firmly cemented his powerhouse status the following year by composing and singing the viral chartbuster "Galliyan" for the film Ek Villain, earning him the prestigious Filmfare Award for Best Male Playback Singer and Best Music Director.
Beyond his cinematic achievements, Ankit is celebrated for his incredible vocal versatility, delivering massive, emotionally heavy tracks like "Tu Hai Ki Nahi" (from Roy) and "Dil Darbadar" (from PK). True to his artistic philosophy, he prioritizes composing fresh, original music and actively seeks to balance commercial film scores with soulful non-film records. This independent vision was perfectly showcased in his solo project EP titled Underrated, which featured the hit single "Tum Kya Ho", a unique independent collaboration with vocal maestro Arijit Singh. In addition to his studio productions, Ankit is a powerhouse live performer who frequently commands major collegiate fests and international stadium concert tours.
