Lajalu Muskan Le Priyesi
by Kalind
"Lajalu Muskan Le Priyasi" is an iconic 1998 classic Nepali pop-rock song performed by Bijay Gurung, the vocalist and keyboardist of Kalind Band. Originally released as the signature hit on their blockbuster debut album, "Sanket", the track features a catchy, fast-tempo acoustic rhythm layered with electric guitar work arranged by Bhupendra Bajracharya. It quickly solidified the band's status as a staple of the late 90s and early 2000s Nepali music wave. Decades after its debut, the song continues to hold immense nostalgia, recently being revitalized with a modern live arrangement for the Old Durbar REWIND music series.
Lyrically, the song's title translates to "With a Shy Smile, My Beloved," and it operates as a direct, passionate confession of instant infatuation. Written and composed entirely by Bijay Gurung, the poetic verses tell the story of a narrator whose heart is instantly "stolen" by the captivating, coy smile of his lover. He pleads with her to break her silence ("Mayalu kehi ta bolana"), look his way with her beautiful, kohl-rimmed eyes ("Gajalu aankha le herana"), and pull him close to end his painful longing. The energetic yet deeply romantic delivery makes it one of the most celebrated love anthems in the history of modern Nepali pop music.
