Urgen Dong is a prominent contemporary Nepali singer, songwriter, and music producer who has risen to become one of the most prominent independent voices in Nepal's modern music industry. Born into a humble family in Kavrepalanchowk—where his father worked as a tempo driver and his mother as a daily wage laborer—Urgen faced severe financial hardships early in life. After moving to Kathmandu, he worked an array of demanding jobs including dishwashing, garment factory labor, and street vending to sustain himself. His life underwent a massive shift after winning the Alpha Got Talent competition in Dubai in 2017, which inspired him to pursue his passion full-time and establish his own independent recording facility, Biurn Studio.
Urgen Dong is celebrated for blending soulful acoustic pop with traditional indigenous influences, frequently integrating Tamang and Tharu languages and folk instruments into his song arrangements. He broke into mainstream stardom through hit tracks like "Tadha Vaye Pani," "Lajalu Mayalu," and "Dui Din Ko Maya," which heavily dominated viral charts on social media. Renowned for his collaborative spirit, he has produced highly successful duets alongside leading female playback artists like Asmita Adhikari and Melina Rai.
