Hiranya Bhojpure is a pioneering Nepali folk singer, lyricist, and musician who left a lasting mark on Nepal's cultural landscape. Born Hiranya Shrestha in the Bhojpur district, he rose to nationwide prominence in 1967 as a founding member of the legendary Lekali Band, alongside artists like Ganesh Rasik. The group revolutionized Nepali music by traveling to remote villages, collecting authentic rustic melodies, and introducing a fresh, socially conscious acoustic folk genre to the mainstream audience. Throughout his career, Bhojpure composed and sang over 80 tracks, delivering timeless classics such as "Bairoad Ko Batoma" and "Tyamke Danda," which remain available today on platforms like Spotify and Apple Music.
Beyond his musical genius, Bhojpure leads a remarkably multidimensional life as an author and former high-ranking civil servant. Holding a Master's degree in Political Science, he successfully balanced his artistic passions with a distinguished career in government administration. As a writer, he has published numerous books, including his musical memoir Lekaliko Sangeet Yatra and the novel Aang Sherpa & the Ocean of Heights. His lifework bridges the gap between rural folklore and modern literature, making him one of the most respected cultural archivists of Nepal.
