Alisha Chinai (born March 18, 1965) is an iconic Indian playback and pop singer celebrated as the pioneering "Queen of Indi-pop." She fundamentally transformed the Indian music industry during the 1980s and 1990s by introducing highly stylized, Western-influenced pop music and vibrant music videos to a mainstream audience. Her landmark 1995 studio album, Made in India, became an unprecedented global phenomenon, selling over 5 million copies and launching its infectious title track into an international anthem. This breakthrough paved the way for independent music in South Asia and earned her a prestigious International Billboard Viewer's Choice Award.
Beyond her massive success as an independent pop icon, Chinai also established herself as one of Bollywood's most distinct playback vocalists.
